STEPHAN HERWIG. EDITORIAL BAREBACK. Fünf männliche, schwule Tänzer auf der Bühne: Das ergibt bereits als Grundkonstellation eine besondere, vibrierende Energie. Die Tänzer offenbaren sich, sie gehen ihren maskulinen, wie auch femininen Seiten auf den Grund; mal verhalten und andeutend; mal offensiv und extrovertiert.

Klischees werden verschoben und aufgebrochen; verschiedene Körperbilder von Männlichkeit evoziert und in Frage gestellt. Die starken individuellen Persönlichkeiten der Tänzer erzeugen spannende und energiegeladene Reibungsflächen. Dabei wird nichts festgezurrt, sondern möglichst viel an Deutung in der Schwebe gehalten, die Grenzen verwischen.

Doch mit dem Blick nach Russland wird die Frage, ob man für die Homoxosexualität Manns genug sei, bitter wie treffend. Ein modernes Tanzstück, ausschliesslich mit männlichen Tänzern besetzt und politischem Impetus ist besonders und auch nötig in dieser Kunstform, deren primäre Erscheinung noch immer von Tutu und Schwanensee bestimmt ist.

The dancers are revealing themselves, they are getting to the bottom of both their masculine and feminine sides; at times reluctantly and suggestively; at other times in an aggressive and extroverted manner. Stereotypes are being shifted and dispelled; different images of the male body are being evoked and called into question.

The strong individual personalities of the dancers create a fascinating and energizing friction. While not, however, tying anything down, but leaving as much of interpretation up in the air as possible — the borders are blurred. However, if you consider the state of things in Russia, the question of being tough enough to be homosexual is as bitter as it is striking.

It is a modern dance piece that is exclusively cast with men. Its political impetus is special and also necessary in this art form whose primary visual appearance is still determined by tutus and Swan Lake. And yet the evening allows a wholly unvoyeuristic view of its gay heroes, who occasionally hide the tough guy in the unicorn.
